If you must go...go directly to the Top Quality beach resort...only leave it when you leave...

Never rent a car...and only use acredited Taxi Services from the resort...

Went once on business stayed in the centre at top hotel...couldn't wait to leave...oppressive...hounded by tourist catches every time went out...never again...

Good Luck...

Montego Bay was where I was thinking of being one of the nicer parts!

Would love to go, Jamaica definitely is one country that has mixed reviews.

One of my favorite places in the caribbean. As many have mentioned Negril is a good place for beaches and snorkeling in particular. Montego Bay is simply a place to fly into. Any tourist stuff around there and you'll be mobbed by locals. Dunn River Falls is fine if you've never done it, but I wouldn't say it's a must. Don't drive yourself around there as there are many dodgy places. Last I stayed at the Iberostar which was one of the nicest resorts I've seen. The zip line tours are not worth the money. If you can find a horseback ride on the beach, I recommend it. Hope you enjoy yourself

Mashed.

Stayed in Sandals in Montego Bay.

We couldn't go to Kingston as it was election time and there had been a few shootings. As I said, it didn't work out for us but a friend of mine goes every year and loves it. The raft trip down the river was nice and there are some great beaches. I think that the Jamaican people get a raw deal and have to hustle to get by.
I hope that you come back on here and tell me that I got it wrong . Have a great time.

Actually Pringle I have been twice ! I would recommend Dunns River falls a good day out . Next I would take a trip down the Martha Brae on a Bambo raft ( takes about 30 /40 mins but be careful not to get ripped off by the bloke in charge of the raft - who will try to sell you an engraved thing ( u will know when you are there -pay no more than 10 dollars . I would also go to Ricks Cafe at Negril - early evening to jump off the cliff thing into the sea and then the sunset . I would also advise you to take plenty of grease so you can lubricate yourself when the BBC team arrive :-)

went to negril about six years ago, i had the weed offers before i left the airport, and theres a shack/ shop there where you can get ice cold red stripe before you get on the coach, served in a carrier bag full of ice . thats a good welcome in my book.

think personal posseion is decriminalized now there, it wasnt when i went , so i was always wary of the thai style sell you bud , then get your bent copper mate to nick you scam. albeit everyone offered you it and you smelt it every where.

the hustlers do get a bit much , i remember the first night on a dark beach i had about eight round me, i felt like 10cc on a dreadlock holiday !!

I can never make people out who go half way around the world just to sit on a beach.

Went there last year and had an amazing time. Clearly plenty of posts on here from people who have never been or shit themselves at the sight of a black face.

Spent most of the time in Kingston, played cricket against the inmates of Tower Street Prison, went to a few local clubs and didn't experience the slightest bit of trouble.

Travelled to Negril via Treasure Beach which was a beautiful place. Negril is more touristy but beautiful beaches and again experienced no aggro when out clubbing.

In terms of specifics, I would definitely visit the Appleton Rum factory for a tour (be prepared to end it smashed) as well as visiting Dunn's River and YS Falls. The Marley Museum and Sabina Park also worth a visit - the latter if there is a game on.

As has been mentioned there are quite a few people who will ask you for money, much like in Philippines, Thailand etc. I believe the vast majority of the violence is gang related so the threat to tourists is not as high as some would have you believe.

Everyone seems to smoke weed and they play Bob Marley mon-stop everywhere. Also, somewhat surprisingly, I found the local women very obliging.

I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Where did you stay?

Apparently Kingston is terrible but most of the rest is lovely.

Only going on what other people have told me.
